Lantern Festival

Kimi is so excited over Lantern Festival this year as he loves playing with sparkles!  He chose this Batman lantern as he is really into all these Marvel Comics Superheroes at the moment.  His favourite being Ironman, Batman and Incredible Hulk.

When I asked if he could just relax his eyes and not let them go into slits when he smiles, he gave me this forced 'open eyes' expression! Lol!

And then quickly changed into this 'monkey face'.  I bet Kimi will grow up to be a joker!  He can be really funny at times and try to pull silly stunts to make us laugh. Sweet!

Racial Harmony Week

This week Kimi's kindy celebrated Racial Harmony Week and the kids had foods from the 4 major ethnic groups in Singapore on each day.  They started their 'food feast' on Tuesday with Vegetarian Bee Hoon for Chinese, bringing in their own chopsticks and utensils.  I was nicely surprised when Huang Laoshi told me that Kimi finished his portion including the fishballs.  Kimi do not like to eat fishballs at all!

Then on Wednesday, they tore at Roti Prata with their stubby fingers and Kimi relished in 3 servings of non-spicy Mee Goreng on Thursday.  I think the kids loved today most - it was nuggets, fries and baked beans!  They even had cake as 1 of their classmate had a birthday celebration today.

Eveyday this week, the kids would learn about the different ethnic groups.  It ended with the kids wearing their favourite ethnic costume today.  Kimi told me when I picked him up, that his teacher said he looked very nice today! Haha!!

It would be really nice if we could get a Finnish or Norwegian costume when he is a little older. :)  Anyway, I think Kimi had lots of fun this week and although he struggled to go to school on Monday and Tuesday, it eased a little from Wednesday.  Kimi's separation anxiety is getting better! All Praises to Jesus!

Kimi wanted to display his kung-fu prowess just as we were leaving. I think he felt 'empowered' as he don the kung-fu suit! Lol!

Papa's Big 40

We didn't go to any fancy restaurants or had a big bash.  We wanted to spend a quiet time at home eating all the yummy hawker food we loved.

I remembered it was some 22 years ago when I first baked a birthday cake for hb (then my boyfriend).  This year, we decided to have durians instead of a cake since everyone in our household loves it.

It was a lovely evening of close family togetherness - this is what I love most!

We stuffed ourselves silly!

CNY Day 7

The Chinese believed that the 7th Day of the Lunar New Year symbolises everybody's birthday and we are supposed to feast. (what a good excuse to indulge? Haha!)

Well, as Christians, we glorify 7 as it represents perfection and everything that is God. Have a little thought, why do you think everything goes in 7s? 7 colours in the rainbow, our body works in cycles of 7, the list is endless. Simply, our Almighty Abba Father made it such, it is His plan. :)

Did you also know that in recent years, people have found more links that the early Chinese may have prayed to the same God, our Abba Father? So maybe that is why Day 7 is everybody's birthday? Perhaps they too believed that 7 represents God's creations, perfections? :)

Anyway, we had dinner at my mom's after which the kids played with sparklers (yes, yet again!) and I prepared TangYuan for us to have as a dessert and also to let Kimi have a little fun.

Although, the little balls were not perfect rounds and were of all sorts of sizes, we did have a nice, short time together. :)

Kimi chosed the blue and green while I of cos went for pink! I made the tangyuan Teochew style cos hb likes it this way. The Teochews like the tangyuan empty and it is served with a sweet sweet gula melaka soup.

I was brought up the Cantonese style and I love mine embedded with loads and loads of gula melaka where every bite oozes with the sweet melted sugar. Yum! The tangyuan is then paired with a gingerly sweet soup that is soooo refereshing!! Whenever I have this soup, I will reminisce about the times where I sit and watch my granny roll these balls and as I grew older, she allowed me to help her. I miss my granny so much! :)

I love my Cantonese style but well, hb doesn't like ginger soup. So, I made a few gula melaka laden tangyuan to indulge and even Kimi preferred those with the fillings! Yay, I will have a new partner for this soup next time. Now, I need to work on the ginger soup on Kimi. :)

I bought this brand's glutinous flour. The Gula Melaka is not good so pls don buy this brand...it had a funny salty after taste. Some pandan (screwpine) leaves for flavour in the sweet soup.

CNY Day 4

This year we didn't do very much visiting - going to only the place we HAD to go. I had forgotten to bring my camera so no pix for Day 2 where we go to KJ Gu-gu's (hb's uncle) house for the long awaited dinner and a nice cosy Tunch Gathering at Aquamarine with my family.

Day 3, myself and Kimi rested a bit in the early part of the day before heading to my mom's for dinner and a game of sparklers with the girls. They had so much fun with just a pack of sparklers!

Hb came back very early in the morning of CNY Day4 and I decided to make him a nice dinner. But I couldn't get any nice prawns, despite going to 4 places so I gave up and decided to do it the next day.

Our 1st CNY 'feast' for the year! Steamed Rabbit Fish (CNY fish), Long boiled chicken soup with pacific clams, mushrooms, dried scallop and dried abalone slices (YUMMY!!! Everyone's favourite) and broccoli with yellow capsicum (supposed to be with scallop too but totally forgot to de-frost!)

CNY Day 1

I was rather upset this year cos hb had to work from Day1 to Day4. It is really nice to have him around during such a large festival. But well, we cope and make do.

Before sending hb to work, we stopped for a quick visit to my mom's in the morning and Kimi was already up to his tricks! Hehe!

Kimi was so cute, he kept "Gong-xi-ing" everyone and anyone he saw. That made many of our neighbours amused or rather, happy to be greeted with such early in the morning? I would! :)

Upon reaching mom's place, suddenly he said he was doing the lion dance!

As we were leaving, it was so windy and Kimi loves it when it gets breezy. Then he started to run, maybe to catch the wind? and he ran, and ran and ran...

Even when we wanted to leave, he still ran and laughed. We didn't want to spoil his fun but hb was pressed for time. So I had to spin a story...I love the intensity in his eyes as he concentrates (sometimes) when I tell/explain something to him.

Pineapple Tarts - Golden Nuggets

I made these 2 days ago, just a small batch for family cos as you would have already known, my oven is on holiday in some sunny place, spa-ing out! :) Charmaine has been so sweet to lend me her table-top oven so I can bake a little! That's what I call true friends!! Cos she uses her oven rather frequently, baking yummy salmon and cod for Julian. And she was willing to let me use it and Ju has to go without his salmon for a few days. Thanks Char! :) Much appreciated!

I prefer making the closed pineapple tarts cos I feel they are easier and faster. Also, since my mom makes the open ones, why trouble right? Hee hee...

Kimi is 3! A Weekend of Celebration!

We started with a mini celebration at SM class and as usual, Kimi wanted a Pirate theme. And he also told me he wanted a cake with an elephant pretending to be a pirate. Ok, I told him, mama will try her best. :)

We decided to do a whole weekend of celebration and let Kimi have loads and loads and fun - that's what Birthdays are all about ya?

We ate so much cake that really, enough is ENUFFF! I, er, we need to rest our systems a little. I was also tired cos besides all the going out, etc... I still had to bake and bake and bake. But it was all fun!

I decided to make cupcakes with a Pirate theme so it will be less messy and instead of using just icing frosting, I used cream cheese frosting with choc chips in the cuppies. I made the little pirates and Captain Pirate a few days earlier as it took a few days to dry out. Then I printed out some pirate flags, stuck them on a pick and away it went! Ahoy!

After class, we went home for a nap before bringing Kimi to the Night Safari - Kimi's first and he loved it!

Since our plans were to let Kimi do the stuff he enjoyed most, we decided to do away with the eating session with our family and instead bring Kimi to see his most anticipated Dinosaurs Show at Hollywood Dinos and watch a IMAX movie. There were many good reviews for the show, Under the Sea so decided to give it a go!

This was about the only pix I took cos Kimi was screaming and said he was scared although he knows that dinosaurs are extinct and those were fake. Oh well...
So, he enjoyed playing and looking at the ducks and swans at the entrance of Jurong Bird Park best.

At Omnimax Theatre. Kimi although enjoyed the show, he almost fell asleep towards the end cos we had allowed him to skip his nap. :(

In the end, he fell asleep on the way home and we ate at the field at Punggol while enjoying the cool breeze and many kites!

After Church on Sunday,we went home as we wanted to bring Kimi for a nice dinner and he really needs his nap. Skipping it can sometimes be like a walking time bomb - sometimes he will be ok while most times he will be whiny and grouchy and unco-operative.

Once Kimi slept, I quickly baked and then iced the cake. By time I had finished, it was 5.45pm and Kimi didn't want to go out, preferring to stay in.

So we headed to Chomp Chomp and bought lots of yummy food and stuff ourselves silly! It was so fun!! After dinner, our neighbour Wayne came to give Kimi a pressie and they had lots of fun catching up and playing, er, I mean fighting together. Haha! Nah, they still played together lah..

Wow... after so many days of non-stop baking and celebations, I was becoming rather weary. Today (Mon) we will be doing a mini celebration in Kimi's school and he could choose what he wished to wear and of course he chose ELEPHANT and his favourite camouflage pants.

Decided to make simple mini raisin cupcakes with a dollop of cream cheese frosting with an animal theme. Didn't have the time and energy to churn out fondant animals so I just made these animal picks using bento barans.

After a weekend of celebrating and fun, our wish for Kimi is,

We celebrated New Year with family members over popiah which I made and to sweeten the coming year, a Strawberry Fresh Cream cake.

Again, totally forgotten to take pix of the party and the cut cake. Age IS catching up.

Kimi's First Trick or Treat?

We were invited to go trick or treating at the American community by Estelle's mummy. Although I wasn't exactly keen on Halloween, I thought why not let Kimi just have some fun dressing up.

We had dinner at KFC first before heading out. But we could only do 1 hour as it started to drizzle rather heavily. And worst, I had forgotten to charge my cam so it died on me minutes into the thick of action. :( Anyhow, I believe all the kids had loads of fun and yes, we are going again next year!

The kids were already discussing what to be next year while in the car on our way home. Estelle wants to be a cat while Kimi wanted to be a skeleton. Kimi had a few scares so I guess he wanted to scare others back? Haha!
